• A fresher design graduate from National Institute of Design can earn up to Rs. 15 lacs p.a. A post-graduate can earn up to Rs. 30 lacs p.a.

• The Government of India is focusing on Design Education in India and plans to promote opening of 20 new design colleges over the next 10 years.

Entrance Exam Preparation

There is an Entrance Exam for admission to top design colleges like National Institute of Design (NID), National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), MIT ID, Srishti, ISDI, SID, DSK, Pearl Academy, CEPT, J. J. School of Art & Architecture, Rachana Sansad etc.

Experts believe, ideally students should start preparing for the design college entrance exams, immediately after 10th standard examination. For post-graduate entrance examinations, students studying in their 3rd year or 4th year should start preparing for the exams.

Choose the right Career

The Design Aptitude Test can be done by students from X, XI and XII grade. It should also be taken by Graduates or Graduating students looking to do post-graduate specializations in Design.

NID 2015 Application Form

Points to Check before Submitting NID 2015-16 Application:

1. Important Dates:
   • Last Date for Submitting Application: 21st Nov 2014
   • Date for Receiving Hall Tickets / Call Letters: 22nd to 31st Dec 2014
   • Design Aptitude Test (40%):
   • >> i. B.Des. – Sunday, 11th Jan 2015
   • >> ii. M.Des. – Saturday, 10th Jan 2015.
   • Written Exam Result: 10th Apr 2015 (tentative).
   • Studio Test (40%) & Interview (20%): 15th to 30th Apr 2015


2. How to Fill: Application should be downloaded, printed and completed. The form has 4 main parts. Please fill all 4 parts fully and accurately.
   • Part 1: Personal Information, Guardian Information, Educational Record, Signature and Checklist for Submission of Application.
   • Part 2: First Copy of Hall Ticket / Call Letter.
   • Part 3: Second Copy of Hall Ticket / Call Letter.
   • Part 4: Payment Details


3. How to Send: Application forms can be sent by post, courier or hand delivered. The form needs to reach NID before 21st Nov 2014.


4. Fees: Attach a DD with prescribed Fees drawn on Nationalised Bank in favour of “National Institute of Design”. Rs 1,500 for General / OBC (Non Cream Layer) Category and Rs 750 for SC / ST / PH Category.


5. Reservation Certificate: Check the For OBC (Non Creamy), SC, ST, PH- you must send Caste Certificate in prescribed format and attestation.


6. Educational eligibility: Check your educational eligibility. Specifically for B.Des. in case of 10+3 diploma students. Specifically for M.Des. the design discipline wise eligibility. For XII Std or Last year students, please get bonafide certificate from your school / college.


7. Age eligibility: Check your age eligibility for B.Des. / M.Des. programs.


8. Documents Checklist: Check if you have completed all the forms as per Checklist?


9. For M.Des. – You can apply for 2 disciplines. You will have to submit separate forms for the 2 disciplines. There are 2 new disciplines introduced- Information & Interaction design has been split into 2 separate design disciplines. A new discipline called Universal Design has been introduced. Total seats have increased to 275.
